03/FAQ

Common questions.

What is the difference between biodegradable and compostable? +

Biodegradable means the material breaks down naturally over time. Compostable means the material breaks down within a specific timeframe under specific conditions (industrial composting). Compostable is a stronger claim and requires certification.

Can I claim "compostable" without certification? +

No. Making compostable claims without certification is misleading and may violate EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive and US FTC Green Guides.

How long is compostable certification valid? +

EN 13432 and ASTM D6400 certifications are valid for 5 years, with annual surveillance audits. OK Compost is renewed annually.
